Unelected Group Bans Open Carrying of Guns from Michigan Capitol

Just days after unarmed, mostly peaceful protestors entered the U.S. Capitol in Washington, a group of unelected officials has banned the open carrying of weapons from Michigan’s Capitol building.

“The Michigan Capitol Commission voted unanimously Monday to ban these firearms from the Lansing building,” ABC said. “Concealed weapons with permits will be still allowed.”

The Michigan State Capitol Commission is not a legislative body. Instead, it is a a group of unelected bureaucrats.

“The Michigan State Capitol Commission consists of the Secretary of the Senate, the Clerk of the House of Representatives, two individuals jointly appointed by the Secretary of the Senate and the Clerk of the House, and two individuals appointed by the Governor,” according to its website. “The Commission manages, maintains and restores the Michigan State Capitol Building and its grounds. The Commission appoints an individual to manage the day-to-day operations of the site and employs staff to carry out these responsibilities. The Commission makes recommendations to the Governor, the Senate, and the House of Representatives regarding funding for the site.”

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) has been pushing for the ban of weaponry from Capitol grounds for some time.

“On a normal day, hundreds of people walk through the Capitol, including groups of fourth graders, teachers, and parents on school field trips to learn about state government,” she reportedly said Monday. “That’s why we must take action to ban all weapons at the Capitol to keep Michiganders safe.”

Eight months ago, armed anti-COVID-19 lockdown protestors breached the Michigan Capitol and demanded that citizens of the state be allowed to resume life as normal. Michigan has had some of the nation’s most stringent COVID-19 lockdown measures in all of America, and many have been imposed by fiat from the Governor’s office, without the input of the legislature.

In October, the FBI foiled a plot by a group of several anarchists to kidnap Whitmer. The six men were also upset at the draconian lockdown measures. Whitmer blamed President Donald J. Trump for inspiring the men, but as it turned out, they were not fans of his either. One of the men had even called for his execution.
